Interim Executive Director, Monarch Thrift Shop CEO
Having moved multiple times before age 18, Christa is thrilled to be rooted in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago for over twenty years. While discovering the challenges and hidden treasures of the city, a friend introduced her to Emmaus. With a desire to blend her backgrounds in accounting and sociology, and being immediately drawn to the atmosphere of grace, love, and healing that surrounded the work on the streets and the interactions in the Ministry Center, Christa came on staff with Emmaus in 1994 as Bookkeeper and Ministry Center Coordinator.
The image of Jesus walking alongside the disciples on the road to Emmaus resonated with her. “Along the journey,” Christa reports, “I have discovered many of my own limitations, and I have met incredible individuals who have taught me how to ask for help, offer encouragement, and trust in God’s love revealed through Jesus. I hope to continue being inspired and inspiring others to keep reaching for our fullest potential—in the midst of acknowledging our weaknesses so that God’s strength can be seen.”
In 2007, she resigned from Emmaus in order to have an adventure-filled year, living in France and being a nanny for her eight-year-old niece. [Christa was re-hired at Emmaus in 2009. Whew. –Ed.] Christa’s family is very important to her; she is grateful that they all live in amazingly beautiful places that she loves to visit!
In 2015 Christa transitioned out of her role as operations director to pursue the vision of launching an Emmaus business that would benefit the clients with work experience and earnings, and provide income for the ministry. Currently Christa is serving as the CEO of Monarch Thrift Shop and the Interim Executive Director of Emmaus Ministries.
Christa attends Immanuel Anglican Church in Uptown.
