John and Carolyn were married in February of 1993. Carolyn is a mother, wife, and musician. She promotes the work of Emmaus through her music and performs throughout the Midwest as part of an acoustic duo called GreenChoby, along with her music partner, Mike Choby. The Greens are outdoor enthusiasts and lovers of all things monastic. In May of 2002 John was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. In 2009 John and family moved to Ohio to help care for his parents. John, Carolyn, and their children attend Holy Family Parish in Stow, OH.
