Visit Emmaus

Immersion Night - An experiential evening of learning about life on the streets. The night begins with a one-hour briefing by an Emmaus staff member at the Ministry Center. After the briefing, the group – usually a church Sunday school class, Christian college class, or other Christian group – is divided into pairs and sent out onto the streets. The pairs are given maps of the areas where Emmaus does outreach and are encouraged to begin talking with and learning from the people of the night community.

The group spends 3-4 hours on the streets and ends the night with a debriefing at the Emmaus Ministry Center. Immersion Nights have been a profound experience for many of the participants and are a great opportunity for Emmaus to encourage other Christians to be involved in urban ministry. All Immersion Night activity takes place in well-lit, highly-patrolled areas. Most areas are popular with tourists and very busy. To schedule an immersion night, please email volunteer@streets.org.

Bring Emmaus to You

Stories from the Streets - Bring Emmaus to your school, church or organization.  “Stories from the Streets” is a flexible program that can be tailored to fit various formats. The full program consists of approximately one hour of the life stories of men involved in prostitution communicated through music and dramatic monologue. Rooted in our guys’ own words, these stories are moving and engaging, sometimes amusing, and always offer an opportunity to understand these men who are truly the “ostracized among the overlooked.” The full program can be abbreviated and adapted for smaller group settings. A Q&A period can be added, and discussion questions are available for breakout sessions for younger groups. “Stories from the Streets” is appropriate for high school and older audiences.  To inquire about Stories from the Streets, please email ontheroad@streets.org

“Stories from the Streets” is an authentic and powerful presentation that brings the stark reality of male prostitution into perspective. You can’t help but leave with a thankful heart for God’s grace and love for these men – and for all of us. While the thought of this issue would make some uncomfortable, the material is presented in a way that elicits newfound compassion for broken men, and it unites us all in our common humanity.

Mike Haley, Director of Gender Issues, Focus on the Family

I was particularly touched by the presentation “Stories from the Streets” by Andi and Al Tauber. They have a haunting way of translating the reality of the streets into a riveting, dramatic presentation.

Most Reverend Francis J. Kane, D.D., Auxiliary Bishop
