Woever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” — II Corinthians 9:6-9
My interest and involvement in Emmaus begins with a desire to live out Matthew 25, but that can be done in many arenas and in many ways. The unique attraction of Emmaus for me is its attempt to live out that call to serve through the cultivation of deep personal relationships—one sinner coming into contact with another—and the recognition that, though physical needs may be served, real change develops in both parties the more we witness Christ one to the other in that relationship.
