Saying YES to Survivors.
When survivors of trafficking and exploitation ask if we can help them, here at EMMAUS, our goal is always to say “yes.” Whether they have physical, medical, or emotional needs, we want to be there to help. Our new location gives us quick access to countless partner organizations, allowing clients to receive the holistic care they need to begin their healing journey.
This past year we have been able to provide 49 services to clients, including mental health advocacy, housing, financial assistance, and life skills training. Clients share that the ease of access and resources available is essential to their healing journey. One such client is Paul. Paul is new to EMMAUS; here is his story:
“My name is Paul*, and I come from a country devastated by internal and international conflict. My family fled when I was young and sought refuge in America, where I thought we would find peace, though that was not the case. I was forced to leave an abusive family before finishing high school. For years, I found myself being exploited by someone I thought was looking after me as a companion. Finally, I was able to leave, though now I am on my own, filled with feelings of overwhelming shame, uncertainty, and sadness. I love studying and reading and am attending school between jobs. Emmaus is where I can relax and cook my own meals, chat with the staff, do my homework, shower, and do my laundry. I feel safe at EMMAUS.”
Your support and prayers have helped EMMAUS provide a space where our clients feel safe. They know we are here for them – to talk, cook, take a shower, or do laundry. Meeting those fundamental human needs is the first step in walking alongside our clients in their healing journey, and it would not be possible without you.
